
Imagine that your brick-and-mortar IT department is like a city block. On one particular block in this hypothetical city, we can house 20 people. Yet our business has grown well in the past year and our city block is no longer large enough to contain 20 more people, who are eager to move in. We are going to have to build a new city block, right?
What if there were a huge housing division on the other end of town that could accommodate these new folks? There would be a gated community with a security guard, transportation to and from the new community, and some of the new people could even telecommute—all for less than the cost of building that city block.
